    Stephen founded Ultralab in the 1980s, moving there from the UK Government's groundbreaking Microelectronics Education Programme. Over a score of years Ultralab grew to become Europe's leading learning technology research centers. Stephen was the guiding "father" of a number of pioneering social networking projects including *ESW in the 1980s, Schools OnLine in 1995/6, Nortel's pivotal Learning in the New Millennium from 1993-2000, the Guinness Record holding Tesco Schoolnet 2000 from 1999, Oracle's Think.com from 1999 and many more. Today Stephen heads his own flourishing policy and learning consultancy www.Heppell.net which now has a portfolio of international projects, from school building to horizon scanning. He is an active professor at Bournemouth University and elsewhere. Stephen sits on the charity Inclusion Trust Board, and is executive chairman of global learning company LP plus.

  • Pat Moholt, Ph.D. - Columbia University Associate Vice President and Associate Dean for Scholarly Resources Director, CUMC Office of Education www.columbia.edu

    Pat's investigation into knowledge structuring, particularly how inter-concept, non-hierarchic links are used, forms the basis of her research interests. Her major focus has been in the creation of a hierarchically structured thesaurus, modeled after the MeSH prototype, for the fields of art and architecture. This work composed the core of her dissertation on standardizing inter-concept relations in vocabularies used for information retrieval, and in knowledge-based artificial intelligence systems. Integration of electronic information resources into the medical and dental school curricula composed the second chief area of her research. Pat's work is conducted in collaboration with faculty in the various disciplines and is intended to augment the classroom experience by shifting some learning to the electronic environment. The project is titled Columbia Health Information Perspectives (CHIPS) and is currently focused on the first year curriculum.

    Neil is the composer and lyricist of the hit off-Broadway musical "The Prince and the Pauper", which ran for two years at the Lambs Theater in New York City. Critics such as the New York Times raved that Berg's music soared on angels' wings. The original CD is released internationally by Jay Records, the sheet music by Hal Leonard, and the licensing by Samuel French, Inc. Neil is currently the composer for the new Broadway musical "Grumpy Old Men", based on the contemporary movie classic starring Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau. His musical "Tim and Scrooge" was voted one of the best musicals of the inaugural NYMF festival in New York City and opened at the Queens Theater in the Park in December of 2006. Among his credits are hundreds of other plays, films, and concerts. Neil will be touring in over eighty cities during 2007-2008 with his hit show "Neil Berg's 100 Years of Broadway and is married to Broadway star, Rita Harvey.

    Marshall Brain is best known as the founder of How Stuff Works and the host of the show "Who Knew? with Marshall Brain". He started HowStuffWorks as a hobby in 1998 and it has grown to be one of the top Web sites in the country. He is also known for the Robotic Nation essays and the book "Manna". The article "How to make a million dollars" is also very popular. Works include a book for teenagers entitled "The Teenager's Guide to the Real World", now in its tenth printing and selected for the New York Public Library's prestigious Books for the Teen Age list. He is a member of the Academy of Outstanding Teachers at North Carolina State University. He is a writer, a well-known national speaker and a consultant.   • Shawn Rosen - Game Executive Producer, Elephant Entertainment

    Shawn Rosen entered the video game industry in 1993, working for Acclaim Entertainment, a New York based video game publisher. Working his way up the ladder, he started out as a games analyst on the infamous White Team, getting his feet wet on two of the biggest gaming franchises of that era, Mortal Kombat and NBA Jam. Shawn would eventually become Executive Producer of External Development, a role in which he conceptualized and produced the hit franchises Dave Mirra Freestyle, BMX, and Aggressive Inline. The previous titles would all go on to win multiple design awards with the Mirra Franchise and sell over 3 million units worldwide. In addition to producing titles which have generated more than $230M in gross revenues, Shawn has won numerous game industry awards and his titles have graced the covers of more than twenty-four magazines worldwide. For three years, he was also responsible for managing a small production studio where he developed intellectual properties for Mark Ecko Enterprises. He currently serves as executive producer for product development at Elephant Entertainment.

    Zlatana Jovanovic-Dicker is the founder of an interior design and Feng Shui consultation firm in Budapest, Hungary. She is a trained architect with over ten years experience in interior design around the world. Zlatana is also an English testing consultant for ETS, working with the TOEFL and TOEIC tests. Born in Kosovo, Yugoslavia, Zlatana obtained her BS from the University of Architecture.     Dr. Sambrotto is a research scientist at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory at Columbia University in Palisades, New York. His work centers on the ecology and nutrient dynamics of plankton, the small usually microscopic organisms that inhabit the surface layers of oceans. Dr. Sambrotto's research areas include biological oceanography and marine microbial ecology. His publications often address interactions among various oceanographic conditions and biological production. Over the years, he has been involved with cutting edge educational software development for the K-12 curriculum. As a seagoing biological oceanographer, Dr. Sambrotto has done research in the remotest of places, including the arctic and antarctic regions. He is the author of educational software for teaching and learning in the earth sciences. He and his wife Beverly live in New York City.

    Although our youngest board member, Mikey Vitelli brings many years of actual experience testing video games, designing virtual worlds, and evaluating game proficiencies. He has made significant contributions to the core competencies area of game development, strategy, and goal setting. An avid outdoors-man, his hobbies include skate boarding, snow boarding, traveling, beach surfing, and boating. He is an active member of the Boy Scouts and also both an actor and musician.

    William Sachs has produced a handful of enjoyable movies throughout the years. Sachs studied at the London Film School, the Actor's Studio in New York City, and the Charles Conrad Studio in Los Angeles. He has directed some of the most highly acclaimed actors in the world including: Academy Award winners Sir Ben Kingsley, James Coburn, Cuba Gooding, Jr., and Mercedes Ruehl; Academy Award nominees Elliott Gould, and Karen Black; Emmy, Golden Globe, and other major award winners and nominees including Jennifer Aniston, Mario Van Peebles, and Peter Boyle. Other Actors he has directed have won awards and nominations such as the Image award, American Comedy Award, MTV Award, TV Guide Award, and numerous festival and foreign awards. His list of films include UFO documentaries; "The Incredible Melting Man" and "Van Nuys Blvd." two humorous works; and "Galaxina", his most popular picture to date. Sachs worked behind the scenes on such films as "Joe", "Exterminator 2", "Servants of the Twilight", and "Leprechaun". In addition to working on television commercials, music videos (Pink Floyd), and public service announcements, Sachs has been involved with the Director's Guild Creative Rights Committee and the Writer's Guild. His films have received more than twenty-five festival awards including the top three awards at the Paris Film Festival of Science Fiction. Sachs is often a guest lecturer at the UCLA Film School.
